Dr. Robert “Bert” Davis will cap more than a decade of leadership at the Zoological Society of Milwaukee at the end of the year in order to chase other leadership opportunities, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Davis has resigned from his role as president and chief executive officer of the Zoological Society, which supports the Milwaukee County Zoo as well as educates the public about wildlife and promotes wildlife conservation.
The society’s board of directors plans to launch a national search to find his successor.
It is not yet clear what other career opportunities Davis is pursuing, though he will likely continue to specialize in the areas of education, zoos and museums, according to Stacy Vogel Davis, publications manager for the society.
Davis has concentrated his expertise on zoos and museums and holds a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Tuskegee University.
Caroline Krider, chairperson for the society’s board of directors, in a statement said that Davis has been a “positive” person at the helm of the organization and within the community.
As Davis transitions out, Krider is confident in the organization’s future.
“The future has never been brighter at the Zoological Society,” she said. “We are proud of the fact that we are raising record funds to support our zoo and broaden our outreach in the community. We look forward to continuing that work in the years ahead.”
Davis said he is proud of the accomplishments of his staff.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Zoological Society,” he said. “It has been a pleasure to work with such an incredible team of people at the society, at the zoo and throughout the greater Milwaukee community.”
