WISN-Channel 12 dominates TV ratings again

WISN-Channel 12, a media partner of BizTimes, dominated the southeastern Wisconsin May sweeps ratings period.

Channel 12 News, weekdays at 10 p.m., is the No. 1 newscast in the region for the second consecutive May ratings period. WISN-Channel 12 led with an 8.9 household rating, followed by WTMJ (6.0), WITI (5.7) and WDJT (5.6). This is WISN-Channel 12’s widest lead in the late evening news competition in Milwaukee ratings history.

WISN-Channel 12 News grew its second half-hour late news audience year-to-year for the third consecutive ratings period. With a 6.3 rating, WISN-12 News at 10:30 p.m. leads in its time period and draws a larger audience than any other station’s late newscast, including the 9 p.m. news on WITI (5.9) and WMLW (1.0).

The Channel 12 news anchors for the 10 p.m. newscast are Kathy Mykleby and Craig McKee.

“Being the news leader and #1 television station in southeastern Wisconsin is a wonderful honor and comes with great responsibility,” says Jan Wade, president and general manager of WISN-TV. “We are particularly proud to serve our viewers with stories that are important and impactful to our community – stories that really make a difference and affect change.”

This May ratings period marks the end of the official 2012/13 television season and the eighth consecutive full-season, sign-on to sign-off win for WISN-12.

The station is also the clear sign-on to sign-off leader among southeastern Wisconsin households for the eighth consecutive May with a 3.7 rating, followed by WITI (2.7), WTMJ (2.4) and WDJT (2.3).

In early evening news, the station continues to lead with the top local news audiences from 5 to 7 p.m.

In morning news, WISN-12 leads Monday through Sunday from 5 to 9 a.m. with a wide lead over the competition. Weekday mornings, local news continues to be very competitive, particularly in the 6 to 7 a.m. hour with a close race between WISN (4.4) and WITI (4.7). On the weekend, WISN 12 News This Morning continues its solid lead in the 7 to 9 a.m. time period where three local news stations compete head-to-head.

“I am so happy for, and proud of, our staff,” Wade said. “They are a very dedicated, caring and hard working group of professionals, whom I look forward to working with each day.”
WISN-12, the ABC affiliate in Milwaukee, is owned by Hearst Television Inc,, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hearst Corporation.

The ratings were conducted by Nielsen Media Research.
