Wisconsin State Fair announces Sporkies finalists

Weird new foods entered in fourth annual contest

The Wisconsin State Fair has announced the finalists for its fourth annual The Sporkies food competition.

A panel of celebrity judges has chosen eight finalists from among 26 entries in the contest, which weeds out the best new foods ahead of the annual statewide fair in West Allis. The first, second and third place winners will be chosen onstage at the Fair’s Bank Mutual Amphitheater on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m.

The finalists are: The Chili-Mac Bottom Pizza by Brew City; the Deep-Fried Ol’ Fashioned by Water Street Brewery; the Elvis Chicken and Waffle Sandwich by Slim’s Lakefront Brew Pub and Eatery; the Fiesta Cookie Dough by Cookie Dough Fondue; the Klement’s Famous Racing Sausage Corn Dog by Bavarian Haus; the Mountain Man Bloody Mary Burger by Exotic Meat Grill; the Sprecher Beer Float Cake by Sprecher Root Beer Everything; and the Thanksgiving Day Burrito by Mexican Grill.

The judging panel is moderated by “Wisconsin Foodie” host Kyle Cherek. Judges are: LeRoy Butler, former Green Bay Packer; Steve Palec, Milwaukee radio veteran; Donny Most, who played Ralph Malph on the television show “Happy Days;” and Anson Williams, who played Potsie on “Happy Days.”

The public will have a chance to try the Sporkies entries and all kinds of other foods at the Wisconsin State Fair, which runs from Thursday, Aug. 4 to Sunday, Aug. 14. There will also be a public vote for the fourth Golden Spork Trophy. More information is available here.
