The data released today comes from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Current Employment Statistics, a monthly survey of about 3 percent of Wisconsin employers, which often is subject to change.
Most of the jobs added statewide from July to August were in the service industry, particularly in leisure and hospitality and in transportation, warehousing and utilities.
In the year ending in August, Wisconsin added 47,800 private sector jobs, according to the DWD.
Wisconsin’s unemployment rate also fell from 4.6 percent in July to 4.5 percent in august. The figure remains below the national unemployment rate, which stood at 5.1 percent in August, and the Wisconsin unemployment rate last August, which was 5.3 percent.
“Under Governor Walker’s leadership, the opportunities for Wisconsin’s workforce continue to grow, with the addition of 47,800 private sector jobs over the year,” said Reggie Newson, secretary of the DWD. “With a higher labor force participation rate and lower unemployment rate than the nation, Wisconsin also continues to experience robust hiring and employment activity.”
