Wipfli gains major Madison presence
Wipfli LLP will gain a major presence in Madison through its merger with Williams Young LLC — a deal between the two CPA and consulting firms that is being announced today.
“Our clients will only benefit from our strengthened capabilities,” said Greg Barber, managing partner for Wipfli, which now has 17 office locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota. “With this merger, we will be able to bring additional expertise to our clients through our expanded service area.”
The merger, effective Nov. 1, will move Wausau-based Wipfli from its ranking as the 21st largest CPA firm in the US into the top 20. Wipfli, now with nearly 600 employees, currently has 16 offices throughout Wisconsin and in St. Paul. Its Milwaukee market office in Wauwatosa has 70 people, including eight partners. Dale Muehl is the partner in charge of that office.
The Williams Young office in Madison, which has 80 employees, including 16 directors, will be known as Wipfli Young during a transitional period and then take the Wipfli name.
Combined revenue for the merged firms for 2003 is projected to be $80 million.
All 16 directors of the Williams Young office will become partners of the Wipfli organization.
Bill Young, managing director of William’s Young, will continue to serve as head of the firm’s Madison office and who will hold a seat on Wipfli’s executive committee said, “From our very early discussions with Wipfli, it was clear that we were trying to achieve the same thing, namely to deliver a level of expertise and service to our clients that sets us apart from our competitors. As a combined entity, we will be able to do this with greater efficiency and, frankly, we’ll be able to achieve greater penetration in the markets in which we do business.”
Williams Young was founded in 1975.
Wipfli’s most recent merger was with Sycamore Group LLC, a Milwaukee-based management consulting firm specializing in information technology management services.
