Businesses and organizations of all sizes throughout southeastern Wisconsin are taking steps to promote wellness among their employees and lower their health care costs. The following companies have been nominated for the second annual Corporate Wellness Awards as part of the BizTimes Milwaukee 2010 Fittest Execs program.
Chr. Hansen, Inc.

Engaging employees in corporate wellness, Chr. Hansen, Inc. has increased employee participation by 24 percent. Offering a three-part program and a wellness point component, employees can participate in a walking campaign and educational courses to achieve their personal fitness. Chr. Hansen hopes to achieve Well Workplace accreditation in the years to come.
Caliendo-Savio Enterprises Inc. (CSE)
5400 S. Westridge Dr., New Berlin

Caliendo-Savio Enterprises Inc. (CSE) launched a corporate wellness campaign this year. CSE started their campaign with 73 percent participant and encourages employees to invest in both physical and mental health. The CSE staff is encouraged to participate in monthly activities including physical activities such as yoga, weight training, meditation, in addition to healthy cooking demonstrations.
Hydrite Chemical Co.

The wellness program at Hydrite Chemical Co. goes beyond the traditional reimbursement program model and provides wellness resources, including a wellness coach to help employees achieve their goals. Through seminars, telephonic coaching, a condition management program and some monetary incentives employees are engaged in wellness.

Johnsonville Sausage, LLC

Recognizing that 46 percent of employees’ medical claims were related to lifestyle issues, Johnsonville Sausage LLC has found creative ways to engage the company in wellness. The company provides two health and wellness centers for employees and their family members in addition to a clinic that offer preventative medical screenings, medical attention and other services free of charge. In 2009 the company partnered with EngagementHealth and offers employees and spouses three wellness programs to help them stay in shape and improve overall health.
Marquette University
1250 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee
Industry: Education
Designated as a Well Workplace, Marquette University offers various events and incentives for employees to engage in a healthier lifestyle. The wellness conversation is supported by a University Wellness Implementation Committee consisting of 23 members including faculty and staff appointed by deans and vice presidents from the institution who meet monthly to plan activities for employees.
Serigraph Inc.

Serigraph Inc. offers each employee access to a personal trainer, a dietician, weight management program and various educational programs for a points based system. Employees can earn up to two paid days of time off as a result of participation in team and individual activities. Serigraph also offers an on-site chiropractor, nurse practitioner and a health coach in addition to monthly lunch and learn sessions for employees to engage in wellness.
Standard Process Inc.

Encouraging wellness amongst employees for the last seven years, Standard Process provides employees an integrated, comprehensive health and wellness program that offers a fitness center for employees. The company’s wellness program has been recognized through the designation as a Well Workplace.
The Starr Group

The Starr Group encourages holistic well-being and supports proper nutrition, regular exercise and lifestyle management in order to achieve overall increase in energy and lifestyle management. With 100 percent participant, the company incorporates two 12-week walk for wellness campaigns each year combined with educational lunch and learns, weekly education emails and individual challenges.
Waukesha County: Health Advancement Program
515 W. Moreland Blvd., Room A160, Waukesha
Industry: Government
Since the early 1990s, Waukesha County employees have participated in wellness programs. In 2008, funding was allocated for the Health Advancement Program, offering a Three Steps to Success program including a biometric test, a health risk assessment and a coaching call from a nurse. Participating employees earn points for completing the three steps and can continue to earn points throughout the year by participating in other educational programs.
