The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation on Monday announced that Brian Nowicki will take over the role of chief financial officer.
Nowicki previously worked as controller at Madison College. He joined the college in 2014, having spent the former 15 years at the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority in roles including financial officer, controller and senior economic development manager. In his final position with WHEDA, he oversaw its Economic Development Division.
Nowicki succeeds Brandon Duck, who left the WEDC in early November after about six months to jump into a senior leadership position with an international development nonprofit organization near Washington, D.C.
In a Nov. 6 notice WEDC secretary and chief executive officer Mark Hogan penned to the WEDC’s board of directors, he said he was “disappointed” in Duck’s move but understood and respected his decision to accept the “unique and challenging opportunity.”
Of Nowicki’s appointment, Hogan said he “brings the specific industry experience and leadership qualities” needed to advance the organization.
“I look forward to Brian joining the WEDC team and to leveraging his expertise in our fulfillment of WEDC’s mission to advance and maximize economic opportunity in Wisconsin,” Hogan said in a statement.
Nowicki is a certified public accountant and chartered financial analyst. He earned a Master of Science degree in finance, investment and banking and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also chair of the City of Madison Housing Strategy Committee.
