Fresh off his re-election victory, Gov. Scott Walker encouraged his cabinet secretaries to find ways to improve their agencies and state government as a whole.
Walker thanked his cabinet members, saying their hard work helped him win re-election. However, he said while voters affirmed the work state government has done since he took office, the transition into a new term provides a “golden opportunity” to reevaluate and improve.
He directed them to look at each of their agencies and divisions with fresh eyes and seek ways to improve efficiency, effectiveness and accountability as the administration begins its next term.
He told cabinet members to take stock of what their agencies do well and what they should no longer do.
“Think as though we’re just coming in new,” Walker said. “Take a look at this as if you just walked in and have never worked in state government.”
With a stronger GOP majority in the Legislature, Walker said, “We’re going to be even more aggressive now.”
Walker also repeated some of his themes from his victory speech on Nov. 4, reminding his cabinet that one of his measures of success is not how many people are receiving help from the government, but how many people no longer are dependent on it.
Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch also addressed the cabinet, thanking its members for their work and finding ways to “give taxpayers the best value they have ever known.”
