UW Cancer Center at ProHealth Care opens today

The UW Cancer Center at ProHealth Care in Pewaukee officially opened today at 8 a.m. Located along Highway 164 just north of Interstate 94, the 116,000-square-foot cancer center is the centerpiece of a collaborative relationship between UW Health, ProHealth Care and Aurora Health Care.

As part of the new 162,000-square-foot campus, a multi-specialty clinic and advanced diagnostic center were also built. The complete project/campus cost was roughly $100 million, according to ProHealth Care marketing director Susen Rasmussen.

At the cancer center, the three health care systems will work together to provide medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, ancillary services and imaging. The health systems say that their integrated relationship will address all aspects of a cancer patient’s needs, reduce variation in care and improve outcomes.

UW Health, which operates the Carbone Cancer Center, will provide medical direction for the treatment of all patients at the Pewaukee cancer center. The Carbone Cancer Center is the only federally designated comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin.

As for Aurora, several of its cancer specialists will deliver care at the center in a move that is considered Aurora’s first step toward a more clinically integrated relationship with UW Health and ProHealth Care in cancer care.

Aurora Health Care, ProHealth Care and UW Health all belong to the statewide AboutHealth network, which was introduced in August 2014. AboutHealth also includes Aspirus, Bellin Health, Gundersen Health System, Marshfield Clinic Health System and ThedaCare.

The address of the cancer center is N16W24131 Riverwood Drive in Pewaukee.
