UPAF riders get chance to ride Hoan Bridge

The United Performing Arts Fund recently announced that for the first time this year, it’s annual UPAF Ride for the Arts will utilize the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge for three of its five routes.
"We’re thrilled that Governor Scott Walker has agreed to support closing the Hoan Bridge for our Ride," said Cristy Garcia-Thomas, president of United Performing Arts Fund. "Being able to include the Hoan Bridge will provide a much deserved reward for the thousands of riders who give so generously each year to keep the arts alive and thriving in our area."
The Ride, sponsored by MillerCoors Brewing Company, will force a two hour closure of the north and south bound lanes beginning from Lincoln Memorial Drive to Car Ferry Drive from 7 to 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 5.
"MillerCoors is thrilled with this new development for the Ride," said Mike Jones, vice president, community affairs at MillerCoors and UPAF Board Member. "The addition of the Hoan to UPAF’s signature fundraising event is sure to attract more riders, resulting in more dollars for the performing arts community which plays such an essential role in the vitality of our region."
Bikes are not usually allowed on the bridge so the ride will offer a unique opportunity for riders.
"This is the chance to ride the bridge that cycling enthusiasts have been waiting for," commented Chris Kegel, owner and president of Wheel & Sprocket, and chair of the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin.
Registration is expected to open in late February. Registration fees range from $25 (Youth) to $35 (Adult) and $95 (Family of 4). A premium fee of $5 per person will be added to the routes riding the Hoan to help cover operational costs. For more information about UPAF’s Ride for the Arts visit www.upafride.org.
