Wisconsin’s unemployment rate remained at 4.6 percent in July, according to a preliminary estimate from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
The seasonally adjusted estimate is below the 5.3 percent national unemployment rate in July. It is also lower than the July 2014 Wisconsin unemployment rate, which was 5.4 percent.
The preliminary data is based on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Current Employment Statistics report, which is compiled from a monthly survey of 3.5 percent of Wisconsin’s employers, and is subject to revision.
Based on the preliminary estimates, Wisconsin added about 12,400 non-farm jobs in July, and 44,500 non-farm jobs from July 2014 to July 2015.
“Unemployment remains at 4.6 percent and is lower the national rate, while our monthly and annual gains in private sector jobs are significant,” said Reggie Newson, secretary of the DWD. “With significant year-over-year gains in high-demand sectors like manufacturing and financial activities, continued investments in workforce training will help spur continued economic growth by providing a strong pool of skilled workers.”
