U.S. employers added a seasonally adjusted 252,000 jobs to their payrolls in December, bringing the number of months with at least 200,000 jobs added to 11 for the year, the best streak in such data since 1994.

The unemployment rate, which is obtained from a separate survey of U.S. households, fell in December to 5.6 percent, down from 5.8 percent in the prior month and now at its lowest level since June 2008.

October and November non-farm payrolls were revised up by a combined 50,000 jobs, according the U.S. Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
