Two community-based testing sites have begun offering free drive-thru and walk-up COVID-19 testing today in Milwaukee.
The sites include Midtown Center, 5760 W. Capitol Drive, and UMOS, Inc., 2701 S. Chase Ave, and will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. No appointments or pre-registration are necessary.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Wisconsin National Guard are supporting the testing sites, which are located in neighborhoods that have lacked access to testing and have experienced community spread of the virus.
“Increased testing and contact tracing are core elements of our Badger Bounce Back plan and are critical to slowing the spread and boxing in COVID-19,” said Gov. Tony Evers. “I urge anyone who needs a test to go get tested at one of these sites and help protect your community and family from this virus.”
The drive-thru community testing sites are part of a larger effort to bolster COVID-19 testing throughout the state, including testing all nursing homes and testing everyone associated with employer outbreaks.
The Walgreens at 620 W. Oklahoma Ave. in Milwaukee is also offering free drive-thru COVID-19 testing, as one of several select Walgreens testing locations nationwide. Those seeking testing at Walgreens must first complete a questionnaire online.
There are a total of 51 labs processing COVID-19 tests across the state, with a total daily capacity of 13,797.
