Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin is featured on the cover of the June 2 issue of Time magazine.
The cover story showcases the Wauwatosa-based hospital’s acclaimed care for extremely sick babies and their families in its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The cover features a photograph of Emalyn Randolph, one of the patients treated in the program. The headline on the story says, “A Preemie Revolution: Cutting-edge medicine and dedicated caregivers are helping the tiniest babies survive.”
The hospital said it was contacted by Time magazine because of its ranking as the number one hospital in the nation for premature and newborn baby care, according to Parents magazine.
According to the article, in 1960 the survival rate for infants under 1,500 grams, or 3.3 pounds, was just 28 percent. By 2010, that rate had grown to 78 percent.
