Charles (Chuck) Swoboda has been elected chair of the Marquette University Board of Trustees.
Swoboda, who is chairman and chief executive officer of Cree, Inc., joined Marquette’s board in 2004 and served as vice chair from 2011 to 2012.
Swoboda will succeed Darren Jackson, who served his full term as chair of the board from 2009 to 2012. Jackson will remain on the board.|
“As a Marquette alumnus and parent, Chuck embraces the Catholic and Jesuit values of the university. His leadership will be an asset to Marquette as we further our mission of educating men and women for others,” said the Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., university president. “I also want to personally thank our outgoing board chair, Darren Jackson, who has been instrumental during my first year as university president.”
Durham, N.C.-based Cree Inc. is leading the LED lighting revolution to make the incandescent light bulb obsolete through the use of energy-efficient, environmentally friendly LED lighting. Cree acquired Ruud Lighting of Racine last August.
Swoboda joined Cree in 1993 and has held numerous executive positions influencing and leading the company’s culture, technology, and business strategy as it has grown and established its market leadership.
