Supreme Court ponders individual mandate

The U.S. Supreme Court today heard a second day of testimony over challenges to President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act.

Protesters against and in support of the challenges ringed the court in Washington, D.C.
Today’s testimony focused on the constitutionality of the individual insurance mandate, a centerpiece of the health care reforms. The mandate would force Americans in the individual marketplace with the ability to pay (there is a hardship exemption) to either purchase health insurance or pay a penalty.
