“We wanted to do something special to kick-off the year of celebration leading up to the 50th Summerfest in 2017,” said Don Smiley, president & CEO of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. “With our deep roots in this community, a free ticket offer on a free admission day is a terrific way to start our year-long celebration and say thank you to all our fans.”

Next summer will mark the 50th Summerfest, which began hosting bands in Milwaukee in the summer of 1968.

Smiley told BizTimes in an interview last month plans are in the works for construction projects on the Summerfest grounds at Henry Maier Festival Park, some of which he hinted could be completed in time to commemorate the 50th edition of the festival. Smiley also said the organization is drawing up plans to replace the Marcus Amphitheater within the next few years. More details are expected to be released in the coming months.
