The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development has announced a new website, WiscJobs for Vets, dedicated to placing veterans with service-connected disabilities in state jobs.
“Whether the public or private sector, people with hiring authority should welcome veterans as members of their team,” said Gov. Scott Walker. “Veterans have the work ethic, commitment, teamwork skills, and leadership background, among other highly desirable qualifications that make them great workforce recruits. With this new site, we aim to employ more of these brave men and women who served our country honorably, and set another example for all employers.”
The site was created by the Governor’s Council on Veterans Employment and developed by Lynda Hanold, acting administrator of the Division of Merit Recruitment & Selection in the Office of State Employment Relations and Phil Koenig, director of the Bureau of Workforce Training at the DWD.
The site is available at http://wiscjobsforvets.wisc.jobs/public/index.asp. It is designed to provide a system for recruitment and referral of veterans with service-connected disabilities of at least 30 percent on a non-competitive basis to state government hiring supervisors. In 2013, state agencies hired 2,923 employees, including 290 veterans and 32 disabled veterans.
