Standard Electric Supply Co. held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate the start of a $4 million expansion project that will add 21,000 square feet to its Menomonee Valley office and warehouse.
“This will allow us the space to ultimately double the size of the company and ensure that we can stay and do business in the city of Milwaukee for years to come,” said Larry Stern, Standard Electric Supply president.
The city sold Standard Electric 1.5 acres of land east of its current building at 222 N. Emmber Lane for the expansion.
Standard Electric Supply Co. has been doing business in Milwaukee for 97 years. The company moved to the Menomonee Valley 30 years ago when the Bradley Center was being constructed.
“Standard Electric was a pioneer, and the company’s vision and leadership in investing here has led the course for the Valley’s revitalization,” Menomonee Valley Partners Executive Director Corey Zetts said in a statement. “Nothing could be a more fitting signal of the bright new future here than the expansion of one of the Valley’s earliest believers.”
Standard Electric distributes electrical and automation products in North America and has 15 locations in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. The company has 180 employees and reported sales in excess of $90 million.
