SME to honor Zimpher

Sales & Marketing Executives of Milwaukee has named University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Chancellor Nancy Zimpher as its 2001 Educator of the Year. Zimpher was selected based on her contributions to education in the Milwaukee community.
In less than three years on the job as chancellor, Zimpher has worked to unite a wide range of campus and community leaders to develop The Milwaukee Idea – a partnership with the community that is intended to expand the boundaries of the university beyond its 93 acres on the city’s east side, and that seeks to collaboratively identify and solve problems in the community.
Zimpher will receive her award at SME’s annual education meeting set for April 19, at the Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee, beginning at 6 p.m.
Another educator, Sister Joel Read, president of Alverno College on Milwaukee’s south side, will deliver the keynote address. Read and Alverno have been internationally recognized for the college’s innovative approaches to female education. Read will speak on “Your Future Workforce: Education for the 21st Century.”
SME members can attend the April 19 program at no cost; the fee for guests is $35. To register or for additional information, call the SME-Milwaukee office at 414- 475-7005.
