Fifth and sixth grade students from Atwater and Lake Bluff Elementary Schools will be able to job shadow Shorewood business owners during the Shorewood Business Improvement Districts Kids Take Charge day on Saturday, April 28 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The cooperative effort between Shorewood schools and the business district offers students the chance to interview business owners and managers about their careers as well as take part in some hands-on activity that relates to the business.
More than 30 children will get to visit the following Shorewood businesses. At Nana Asian Fusion and Sushi Bar students will learn to roll sushi guided by a trained sushi chef. At Bayshore Veterinary Clinic students will learn what it really takes to care for animals as a vet assistant. At The Workroom, future design stars will learn how they can combine their interest in art with interior design by working on a fun craft and at Goody Gourmet’s junior candy makers will learn how to dip chocolate and add sprinkles.
Students will also be able to visit the Shorewood Patch to follow a professional writer on an assignment, the Robert Laurence Hair Studio, North Shore Bank, Goldi fashion retail store, Gloss Photography Studios, Shorewood Family Chiropractic, Baker’s Square, and Sendiks.
