Self-Help Federal Credit Union plans to open two new branches in Milwaukee at 3340 S. 27th Street and 5630 W. Fond du Lac Ave. The credit union will be vacating its current branch at 2102 W. Fond Du Lac Ave and all staff will be moving to the new Fond du Lac Avenue branch, which will open on Nov. 30, said Rodolfo Medina, Self-Help Federal Credit Union Chicago and Milwaukee market president. The new location will operate as a full-service branch, according to an occupancy permit filed with the city of Milwaukee. Self-Help Federal Credit Union came into possession of the 27th Street branch after acquiring select Seaway Bank-operated branches in 2017. The credit union is in the process of hiring staff at this location, which will open in the first quarter of 2021, Medina said. “We saw an opportunity for the work we do as a credit union, as the nonprofit and social justice-oriented credit union that we are, to go in there and do good work,” Medina said of the credit union’s presence in the city. “Hopefully, we continue to grow in Milwaukee.” Self-Help Federal Credit Union has more than 60 branches in seven states. The credit union has $3.1 billion in total assets and $1.7 billion in total deposits.
