United Way of Greater Milwaukee, in partnership with Community Advocates recently received a $300,000 grant from the Siemer Institute for Family Stability.
The grant will be used to fund the Homeless Prevention Program for Families with School-Aged Children.
“Kids can’t do their homework in the backseat of a car,” said Joe Volk, chief executive officer of Community Advocates. “By preventing homelessness for families with school age children, we can help our youngest and most vulnerable students remain in stable homes to give them the best possible chance of academic and life-long success.”
The initiative will support the creation of a coordinated and collaborative effort to target and prevent homelessness for families with children, and help reduce student mobility, which in turn will help increase academic success.
For more than 35 years, Community Advocates has provided advocacy, services and assistance for the homeless. Community Advocates is a United Way agency program partner. The United Way of Greater Milwaukee will invest an additional $300,000 in this project over the next three years.
