The owners of Milwaukee’s popular Mad Rooster Cafe are proposing a second location in downtown Waukesha.
The restaurant would be located at 130 NW Barstow St., in a former Hardeees building that has been vacant since the fast food restaurant closed in 2013.
Pleasant Prairie-based Kueny Architects, LLC submitted plans to the city of Waukesha Feb. 1 for the project. The city’s plan commission will review the plans March 9.
Mad Rooster owner, Andreas Bouraxis, could not be reached for comment.
In addition to owning Mad Rooster Cafe, 4401 W Greenfield Ave., the Bouraxis family owns the Omega Burger in Franklin, El Fuego in Milwaukee and El Beso in Greenfield.
In June 2015, a federal grand jury in Milwaukee returned a 33-count indictment charging the Bouraxis family with violating federal tax laws. The case is still pending. A status hearing has been set for Feb. 9.
Maria Pandazi, Waukesha city planner, said she didn’t know if the indictment would affect the plan commission’s decision.
“We’ll be reviewing for architectural and site plans, I’m not sure if that will become part of the discussion or not,” Pandazi said.
