Sealed Air Corp. on Friday informed state officials it will be closing its Racine satellite office at 1400 N. Newman Road in Mount Pleasant on May 31 and laying off 45 employees.
The company also updated officials on a previously announced layoff from its facility at 8310 16th St. in Sturtevant, indicating that it will lay off 29 people between now and June 20, 2017. The facility was previously the headquarters for Diversey, which Sealed Air purchased in 2011. The company has actually closed that facility and relocated the employees to a temporary space at 1300 90th St.
Sealed Air announced in 2014 that it was relocating its headquarters from New Jersey to Charlotte, N.C. The move also included the relocation of all 300 jobs from the Sturtevant office to North Carolina.
S.C. Johnson agreed to buy the former Diversey headquarters from Sealed Air for $27.6 million after the relocation was announced. The building was then leased back to Sealed Air through the end of 2015.
The layoffs from the Racine satellite offices will be taking place from the end of March this year until March 31, 2017. The company will either be terminating them or permanently relocating the employees to Charlotte.
Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development staff will be working with staff from the Southeast Wisconsin Workforce Development Area to assist the affected workers.
CNH Industrial announced earlier this week it would be laying off 105 employees from its Racine-area plant. The county’s unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in November, the most recently released data. The figure ranked the county 52nd in the state.
