Scion Dental, a Menomonee Falls-based dental administration company, is scheduled to open a Baltimore office on Jan. 1. Scion Dental has three offices in the Milwaukee area, and the Maryland office will be the first official location outside of Wisconsin.
Scion Dental is opening the Maryland office because it was awarded a contract by the State of Maryland’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to manage dental benefits for the approximately 650,000 Medicaid members in the Maryland Healthy Smiles Dental Program.
Five or six employees are expected to initially work in the 1,250-square-foot Maryland office, although more employees may be added over time, according to John Schaak, president of Scion Dental.
There will also be 10 to 15 people working in a minority-owned enterprise who will form a dedicated call center for Scion Dental in a vendor relationship.
Some Scion Dental employees will be new, and others are already employees who work remotely. No one, however, will be moving to Maryland from Wisconsin, Schaak said.
As a private company, Scion Dental did not disclose the investment in the new office.
