Downtown Milwaukee’s Schlitz Park is bringing back a Milwaukee institution, The Brown Bottle Pub, at 221 W. Galena St.
OnMilwaukee.com, a media partner of BizTimes, is reporting that a new Class B tavern license and food dealer (restaurant) license was applied for on July 2 for the pub by The Brown Bottle LLC.
The building formerly housed the Schlitz Brewing Company’s tasting room, which opened in 1938. The hand-carved woodwork and the old photos inside the old Brown Bottle, that closed in 2004, were meant to conjure up the atmosphere of a 19th century European tavern.
When Schlitz was finally shuttered in 1982, the popularity of the Brown Bottle gave it continued life and it became a full restaurant in 1986.
Dean Cannestra opened Libiamo in the former Brown Bottle space in 2005. However, it closed in 2012.
The new Brown Bottle has been under construction for months and will feature a new outdoor beer garden.
