S.C. Johnson to move Caldrea work to Racine

S.C. Johnson has announced it is closing the Minneapolis home office of The Caldrea Company, which it acquired in 2008.

Forty people will lose their jobs, and The Caldrea Company’s brands – Caldrea and Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day – will be integrated with SC Johnson’s Home Cleaning business in Racine.

“Today’s decision, although difficult because it affects people, is about keeping the Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day and Caldrea brands competitive long-term by leveraging the expertise and resources at SC Johnson to further grow and strengthen our brands,” said Maggie Carey, general manager, The Caldrea Company.

SC Johnson spokesperson Jam Stewart confirmed a Racine Journal Times report, saying “SCJ is hopeful 10 to 15 employees from Minneapolis who have been offered transfers will accept them and come to Racine.”

Select research and development, sales and marketing positions will be relocated from Minneapolis to Racine.

“These decisions are never easy, but integration with the SC Johnson Home Cleaning business is vital to the brands’ growth,” Carey said. “Since the acquisition in 2008, we have invested continually in both the Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day and Caldrea brands – doubling them in size in five years. As we continue to further grow these brands, connecting them to our North America business allows us to maximize the company’s global resources.”

The company said it is “making these changes in the most supportive way – including better-than-industry-standard severance packages and job search support.”

S.C. Johnson is undergoing a company-wide restructuring and is cutting hundreds of jobs in the Racine area.

Stewart said she is not providing additional details on the number of jobs being cut in Racine and when those cuts are taking place.
