Ryder closing Milwaukee operations, eliminating 80 jobs

Florida-based logistics company Ryder is closing one of its Milwaukee locations, eliminating about 80 positions, according to a notice filed with the state. The company will cease operations at 5211 S. 3rd St. in Milwaukee due to a “customer’s changing business needs,” HR manager Charles Hengesbach said in a WARN notification to the state Department

Florida-based logistics company Ryder is closing one of its Milwaukee locations, eliminating about 80 positions, according to a notice filed with the state. The company will cease operations at 5211 S. 3rd St. in Milwaukee due to a “customer’s changing business needs,” HR manager Charles Hengesbach said in a WARN notification to the state Department of Workforce Development. The closure is effective April 1. Hengesbach said the customer has “expressed interest in retaining as many employees as feasible,” and Ryder is committed to retaining as many employees as possible. It did not disclose the titles of the affected positions. None of the affected employees has bumping rights. Ryder, which is headquartered in Miami, has about 800 locations nationwide, including several in southeastern Wisconsin. According to the company’s website, it has two locations in Milwaukee, two in Oak Creek, two in Waukesha, one in Sheboygan and one in Racine.
