Milwaukee Fire Department chief Mark Rohlfing has been appointed honorary chair of the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, the nonprofit organization announced on Wednesday.Salvation Army-42139990-1-Shutterstock.jpg

The campaign – the organization’s single largest fundraising vehicle – backs 85 year-round programs and services that provide relief to homeless residents, unemployed individuals and others needing access to basic resources.

“It’s a privilege to have Milwaukee Fire Department Chief Mark Rohlfing serve as the honorary chair for our Red Kettle Christmas Campaign,” Major Dan Jennings, divisional commander of The Salvation Army of Wisconsin & Upper Michigan, said in a statement. “His commitment to the safety of the residents of Milwaukee parallels our mission of meeting human need without discrimination, makes Chief Rohlfing the perfect community leader to chair this year’s campaign.”

The 2015 campaign launched Friday morning during a celebration and pancake breakfast at the Milwaukee Public Market.

Last year’s campaign raked in more than $4 million, despite struggles to collect contributions throughout the holiday season.
