Roadrunner profit up on both organic and strategic growth

Cudahy-based Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc. has announced first quarter net income of $13.6 million, or 35 cents per share, up from $10.4 million, or 27 cents per share, in the first quarter of 2014.

Operating income was $26.8 million, up from $19.2 million in the same period a year ago.

Revenue at the transportation and logistics company was $489 million in the quarter, up 28 percent from $382 million in the first quarter of 2014.

Roadrunner has made a number of acquisitions over the past several years, which has partially contributed to its rapid growth.

“This revenue growth was a combination of both organic and acquisition-related growth, offset partially by weather and a decrease in our fuel surcharge revenue,” said Mark DiBlasi, president and chief executive officer of Roadrunner. “We were very pleased with our first quarter 2015 performance, especially in the rebound of our LTL business segment.”

The company also has named William Goodgion president of its Transportation Management Solutions segment. He will be responsible for overseeing the TMS segment, which includes Group Transportation Services, Marisol International and Unitrans International. Goodgion has more than 25 years of industry experience, most recently as managing director of operations for the central region at FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage Inc.
