Retail development proposed for Village of Pewaukee

Plans include three restaurants and a financial institution

A $10 million retail development is being proposed on 9 vacant acres along Capitol Drive in the Village of Pewaukee.

Somerstone, a developer with offices in Indianapolis and Brookfield is proposing up to 10 businesses on five properties at the southeast corner of Capitol Drive and Meadowcreek Drive.

Businesses planned in the project include two fast food restaurants, a sit-down restaurant, a retail establishment, an automotive shop and a financial institution, according to Mary Censky, village planner.

The total size of the development is about 29,000 square feet, Censky said.

Somerstone representatives asked the village plan commission to review plans Jan. 14, and were sent away with several recommendations.

Censky said they will be back on the plan commission agenda once several issues are addressed, including working with Associated Bank, which is located just east of the proposed development, on the entry and exit points. Censky doesn’t believe that will be in February.

“(Somerstone) has indicated that they have prospective tenants committed and they would like to have all of the buildings occupied by 2016, but that’s an extremely optimistic outlook,”

Representatives from Somerstone could not be reached for comment.
