Quad/Graphics Inc. plans to transform its Westampton, New Jersey facility into a digital print supercenter, continuing a trend of investments to improve its digital capabilities.
The Sussex-based company announced the plans Thursday, saying the facility would set “a new standard for personalized, high-response direct marketing solutions.” The plant is already used for direct marketing production, but the new investment will add technology that offers more full-color, high-volume and cost-effective personalization.
The new technology includes two new Hewlett-Packard Indigo 12000 digital presses. The facility will also operate several other digital presses as well as offset presses with upgraded inkjet technology, and install two new high-speed letter inserters to enhance lettershop operations.
“The creation of an East Coast Digital Print Supercenter is the next step in the evolution of our direct marketing business,” said Joel Quadracci, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Quad/Graphics. “We are primed for long-term success, but more importantly, we are fully equipped to help our clients with best-in-class print quality and achieving one-to-one, data-driven consumer engagement.”
The project should be completed by May of next year.
It comes on the heels of the creation of a Midwest Digital Print Supercenter at the company’s Pewaukee facility. The project involved a $20 million investment also focused on adding personalization capabilities to direct mail production. That facility will add the same Hewlett-Packard press as the New Jersey facility before the end of the year.
Quad also recently expanded its capabilities at its Effingham, Illinois to focus on personalization. The company’s Dallas facility is also getting a multi-million dollar investment to add technology and jobs.
“The pace of improvements in digital print technology is exceedingly fast, and we are at the forefront of using this leading-edge technology so that we continue to create the most value for our clients,” said Tim Ohnmacht, Quad/Graphics President of Marketing Solutions.
