ProHealth Care is resuming construction for its new $55 million Mukwonago hospital after pausing the project last spring due to COVID-19.
The Waukesha-based health system halted construction in April 2020 for the project, which includes building out new space and renovating existing space at its D.N. Greenwald Center campus, at 240 Maple Ave., to convert it into a 24-inpatient bed hospital.
ProHealth Care said it expects to be able to open the new facility by late 2021 or early 2022.
The work that remains includes completing inpatient rooms, surgical areas and a full-service kitchen and dining area, and installing equipment. Construction began in February 2019, and a new main entrance and corridor opened in December of that year.
Construction will resume as soon as crews and equipment can return to the site, ProHealth said.
The ProHealth Medical Group clinic, the emergency department and other medical services on the Mukwonago campus remain open.
The Mukwonago hospital will be the fourth in the ProHealth Care system, which includes ProHealth Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, ProHealth Waukesha Memorial Hospital and ProHealth Rehabilitation Hospital of Wisconsin in Waukesha.
