Those plans are the result of a strategic partnership between the company and Menomonee Falls-based Kohl’s Corp., which aims at increasing consumer traffic for both businesses.
“We continue to see our Rightsizing strategy as an important initiative to not only leverage our real estate assets but also drive traffic to our stores through key partnerships,” said Michelle Gass, Kohl’s chief executive officer during the company’s fourth quarter earnings call held Tuesday.
Each Planet Fitness location will occupy 20,000 to 25,000 square feet of space. Ten facilities are currently planned, with the opportunity for additional locations, according to a news release.
Planet Fitness currently operates and has more than 1,700 locations in 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Mexico.
“In today’s evolving retail landscape, our differentiated approach to fitness continues to drive traffic to shopping centers across the country, and with over 12.5 million members, resonate strongly with consumers,” said Chris Rondeau, chief executive officer at Planet Fitness. “We are excited to announce this initial expansion and partner with Kohl’s to drive new and complementary traffic to these locations, while introducing shoppers to our high-quality, judgement-free, fitness experience at a great value.”
This isn’t the only health-focused initiative currently in the works for Kohl’s. In January, the company announced a partnership with New York-based global weight loss company Weight Watchers, which recently rebranded as WW, to roll out a new line of products and services focused on the ever-growing trend toward health and wellness.
