Milwaukee-based automated data company PKWARE announced that it has acquired California-based Dataguise. Dataguise provides products for businesses to discover and protect personal data stored across diverse IT systems and environments. The tech company helps companies in industries such as financial services, health care, retail and government discover sensitive information across endpoints, servers, SaaS solutions and public, private or hybrid cloud environments. PKWARE, known for inventing the ZIP file format, was founded in 1986. The company provides encryption and data compression software used by thousands of companies across a variety of industries including banking, financial services, health care and the government. The acquisition will expand PKWARE’s global footprint to include existing Dataguise operations in the United States, India, Europe and Canada, according to a press release. “Dataguise is a leader in privacy management; adding its technology creates a best-in-class data security company that helps customers find, classify and protect sensitive data, wherever it is,” PKWARE chief executive officer Spencer Kupferman said in a statement. In May, PKWARE was acquired by St. Louis-based private equity firm Thompson Capital Partners. The private equity firm invests in founder-led middle market businesses and has acquired more than 150 companies in the health care, life science services, business services, software and technology services and engineered products sectors.
