Phoenix Lighting buys Georgia-based Bright Lights Systems

Deal expands in-house expertise

Milwaukee-based Phoenix Lighting has acquired Georgia-based Bright Light Systems Inc. in a deal that will expand the company’s lighting control and monitoring offerings.

Phoenix Lighting is a manufacturer of industrial light fixtures for harsh environments that operates from a 68,000-square-foot facility at 8711 W. Port Ave. on Milwaukee’s northwest side. The company was bought from the fourth generation of family ownership last year by management and Boston-Based JMC Capital Partners with aggressive plans for growth.

The acquisition of Bright Light Systems adds to the company’s technology offerings to help customers improve efficiency and performance.

“Our customers are enthusiastic about this announcement as it follows the industry-wide demands for increased performance data and intelligence on the equipment critical to supporting operations,” said Ryan Hertel, managing director – ports and maritime at Phoenix.

Brad Lurie, previously chief executive officer of Bright Light Systems, will manage Phoneix’s new controls division. He said the combination of technology and industry knowledge made the deal “a perfect acquisition.”

“We are excited about the possibilities that this acquisition brings, leveraging Phoenix’s strengths in rugged industrial design with new technology and products,” said Dave Logan, operating partner for JMC Capital.

The companies did not disclose terms of the deal.

Melissa Stephany, director of marketing for Phoenix, said the deal means production that was previously done with a contract manufacturer in Atlanta is moving to Milwaukee, spurring job growth the company is currently hiring for at its facility.
