Wausau-based Peoples State Bank plans to open a location in West Allis, which would mark its first full-service branch outside of north-central Wisconsin.
According to a city report, the bank is looking to make various improvements to an existing bank building at 10725 W. National Ave., where it plans to “reestablish a bank with drive-thru.”
Proposed work to the building includes removal of an existing ATM structure, installation of a new planting bed along the north property line, replacement of the existing columns at the drive-up canopy with new ones and installation of new drive-up islands and banking equipment under the drive-up canopy. No changes will be made to the building’s exterior.
Site, landscaping and architectural plans related to the proposal are scheduled to be taken up Wednesday evening by the city’s Plan Commission. The plans were submitted by State Peoples Bank and Waukesha-based The Redmond Co.
According to city assessment records, the roughly 4,800-square-foot building was constructed in 1966. The city report notes the building was originally built for a Bonanza restaurant and was also previously used as a Heinemann’s candy shop. It has been used as a bank since the 1990s. It was previously occupied by PNC Bank.
Peoples State Bank recently purchased the building for $950,000 from previous owner 10725 West National Avenue LLC, according to state records.
A spokeswoman with the bank wasn’t immediately available for comment. According to its website, Peoples State Bank has nine full-service locations in Marathon, Oneida and Vilas counties. It also has commercial lending offices in Wauwatosa and Stevens Point. Its Wauwatosa office is located at 8112 W. Bluemound Road.
The bank was founded in 1962 and has total assets in excess of $900 million, according to a recent news release.
