Nominate the individual champions of your organization
BizTimes Milwaukee announces the launch of its “Giving Guide, Regional Philanthropic Opportunities,” a new print and digital publication to showcase nonprofit organizations seeking support from the business community.
In addition to featuring sponsored content from nonprofit organizations throughout southeastern Wisconsin, the Giving Guide also will feature a condensed version of the online BizTimes Nonprofit Directory and will highlight individuals and corporations who donate their time, talent or treasure to the nonprofit community in southeastern Wisconsin.
BizTimes is asking local nonprofit organizations to nominate people who have given back to the community with their time, talent or treasure. A selection of those people will be featured in the Giving Guide. Please send those nominations, along with a note about how they contribute, to Alysha.Schertz@biztimes.com. The deadline to nominate champions of the nonprofit community is Monday, Oct 11.
“The nonprofit industry is an important sector of our local economy,” said Dan Meyer, publisher of BizTimes Milwaukee. “So many of our readers are not only impacted by the nonprofit industry, but they also serve on the boards of charities and make positive contributions to the quality of life here. This guide will be a great resource for the nonprofits, as well as business people who are looking for ways to serve.”
The glossy, four-color magazine will be published and distributed with the Oct. 29 issue of BizTimes Milwaukee. It will also be available online in a digital page-turn format.
The Giving Guide is the latest addition to BizTimes Media LLC’s commitment to the region’s nonprofit community. The company also produces the BizTimes Nonprofit Directory, the BizTimes Nonprofit Weekly e-newsletter and the BizTimes Nonprofit Spotlight in the bi-weekly magazine. In addition, the company features nonprofits’ charitable outings throughout the year in BizTimes Around Town and is the media sponsor for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Partners in Philanthropy Luncheon.

United Way, Harris Bank teach financial literacy to kids

United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Harris Bank recently teamed up to promote “Moonjar,” a financial literacy program designed to help educate youth in the community the importance of managing money and “shooting for the moon” through effective spending, saving and sharing. Children from kindergarten through fifth grade recently learned about the importance of saving and investing money from volunteers at Harris Bank. “Teaching children about money is an important and valuable life skill lesson,” said Peter Engel, President, Harris Wisconsin. Each child will received a Moonjar moneybox which allows them to practice their lesson during the program, and beyond. The moneybox is divided into three separate sections: spend, save and share, offering children a simple way to understand how to use money and build a strong financial foundation to reach their goals. Harris Bank also gave each student starter coins to help bring the lesson to life.

Christmas Clearing Council seeks family sponsors for holiday season

Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County, Inc. (CCC) has opened its seasonal office and is seeking businesses, organizations, clubs, schools, families and individuals to sponsor families in need for the 2010 holiday season.
“We are counting on the community to step up and help us make the holiday season brighter for the growing number of children who will go without this season,” said Ruth Page Jones, executive director of CCC. “Sponsorship is a wonderful way to directly help those in need on a personal basis. With the economy slow to recover, we are also in need of donations to carry out our mission whether its money, toys for our toy drive or gift cards.  There are many ways to help.”
Beginning on Monday, Oct. 18 the Christmas Clearing Council will match a family, organization or an individual willing to sponsor with a family in Waukesha County in need. Families with children of all ages will be available as well as single child or multiple child households.  Interpreters are also available for those who are willing to sponsor a Spanish-speaking family. Sponsorship involves purchasing toys or clothing in the amount of $60 per child.  Sponsors should make arrangements to deliver their gifts of Christmas toys or clothing personally by December 15.  Interested sponsors should call (262) 549-NOEL to make arrangements. CCC takes calls Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Families who are not matched with sponsors through the program are invited to come to the CCC Toy Shop to shop for community-donated gifts and clothing items for their children. CCC is also looking for donations from the community of cash and gift cards to help children for whom a sponsor is not found.
