Chief Flynn added to board of directors at Safe & Sound
The Board of Directors at Safe & Sound, Inc. in Milwaukee, has elected Milwaukee Police Department Chief Edward Flynn as board chair and has re-appointed Robin Martin, partner, at Komisar Brady Co. as treasurer.
Arthritis Foundation adds new committee members
The Arthritis Foundation, Wisconsin Chapter has announced three additions to the National Arthritis Foundation Committee. President of Midland Video Productions, George Liberatore, a past chair of the Wisconsin Chapter Board, and current National Board member has been appointed to the National Marketing & Communications Committee and the Charter and Performance Committee. Advisor and past chair of the Wisconsin Chapter Board, Daniel Woehrer, Special Assistant to the Rector at St. Lawrence Seminary, has accepted an appointment to the National Budget and Finance Committee, and Wisconsin Chapter Advocacy Committee chair, Lynn Sanders, CEO of the Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Network, C.A.R.E.S. Inc., has accepted an appointment to the National Public Policy Committee.
Sparrow to join MCFI leadership team
Tracey Sparrow, regional chapter executive at the American Red Cross in Southeastern Wisconsin, has been named vice president of children’s services at the Milwaukee Center for Independence (MCFI).
“Dr. Sparrow brings a lifelong focus on education to this position,” said Howard Garber, MCFI president. “Paired with her experience in leading a major nonprofit agency, we believe she is an ideal fit for this new position.”
Sparrow will lead MCFI’s rapidly expanding children’s programming, including the Pediatric Special Care unit, School for Early Development and Achievement, and Birth to Three program, which provides in-home therapies and parent education for families of children with diagnosed or suspected developmental delays.
Sparrow has served on the board of the School for Early Development and Achievement for about a year and has a passionate interest in children’s issues. Before joining the Red Cross in 2007, Sparrow was president and CEO of the Milwaukee Academy of Science charter school for seven years. She has served as adjunct professor at Alverno College, Cardinal Stritch University and Carroll University.
Local law firm honored with Martin Luther King Jr. Award
The Milwaukee Branch of the NAACP recognized law firm Hupy & Abraham, S.C. with a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for the firm’s commitment to civil rights work. The award was presented to Attorneys Jason Abraham and Chad Kreblin at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration.
Hupy & Abraham donated more than $100,000 in scholarship assistance to area youth through the NAACP. In addition to their scholarship assistance, Hupy & Abraham was also recognized for their work on the Curtis Harris police brutality case and $3 million settlement – the largest in Milwaukee history – for an incident that left a man paralyzed.
