MAM offers free admission to military
The Milwaukee Art Museum will be FREE for veterans and active military members on Memorial Day. The Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and military members can get in for free with a military ID.
American Quilts: Selections from the Winterthur Collection and Raphael: The Woman with the Veil is currently on exhibit at the museum.
Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation Golf Outing
The Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation recently raised $44,000 at its 19th Annual Teeing up for Charity golf outing. The Foundation is dedicated to advancing the quality of life of individuals and families affected by hemophilia or other bleeding disorders. Programming is designed to increase public awareness, promote early identification, ensure access to needed services, educate and support families, fund research to improve care and find a cure.
Local nonprofit receives grant from Green Bay Packers
Journey House, a Southside Milwaukee community organization, recently received a $200,000 grant from the Green Bay Packers as part of the National Football League Grassroots Program.
The grant, awarded by the Packers, the NFL Youth Football Fund and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), is part of $2.5 million in field refurbishment awards allocated this year. It will be used to install the former Ray Nitschke Practice Field donated by the Green Bay Packers to Journey House at Mitchell Park.
Journey House provides educational and recreational opportunities to more than 6,600 individuals at nine facilities. The field at Mitchell Park is the home field for the Journey House Football League and Cheerleading Programs. It will also be used by other local youth, high school, and college level football programs.
“Our focus at LISC is on building sustainable communities – good places to live, work, do business and raise families,” said Michael Rubinger, LISC president and CEO. “Developing recreational opportunities is a key part of that, and the NFL has been a committed partner in making it happen.”
Tasting Tuesday at the Ale House
The Center for Communication, Hearing & Deafness will host Tasting Tuesday at the Milwaukee Ale House, 233 N. Water St., on Tuesday, June 15 from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m.
Proceeds from the annual event support critical programs and services for children and adults throughout Wisconsin who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Attendees will have the opportunity to sample hand-crafted beers and wines from around the world, while enjoying food from the Milwaukee Ale House and music from Dan Dance. A live and silent auction will also be held.

YWCA to host breakfast series
The YWCA of Greater Milwaukee will kick off its Professional Women’s Breakfast series on Wednesday, June 16 at Mount Mary College, north dining room, 2900 N. Menomonee River Parkway, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The first session, Experience Speaks will feature panelists Shelia Cochran, chief operating officer, secretary/treasurer of the Milwaukee Area Labor Council, AFL-CIO, Patricia Pearman, director of disparity programs & U.S. partnerships, General Electric Company and Ursula Twombly, president of Continuum Architects + Planners.
