The Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee is seeking nominations for four Nonprofit Excellence awards to be presented during its first Nonprofit Leadership Summit on Oct. 13.
In past years, the organization has hosted a fall awards ceremony, but its leaders decided this year to instead organize a day-long event that includes a resource fair organized by the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network.
The purpose of the day-long event is to help nonprofits attract volunteers, board members, employees and other stakeholders while also bringing attention to certain issues in the local nonprofit community, particularly a looming generational shift in leadership.
“Changes are coming in the sector as the baby boomers begin to retire and hand the leadership roles over to a new generation,” said Nonprofit Center Chief Executive Officer Rob Meiksins. “What will that mean? This year, we’ll celebrate new ideas that are already changing our landscape, and seek more that will have an impact in the future.”
The summit, which is open to the public, will be held at Best Pace in the former Pabst Brewery complex in downtown Milwaukee from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The organization is inviting people in the community to submit “disruptive nonprofit leadership ideas.”
Four awards for organizational leadership, community leadership, philanthropic leadership and catalytic leadership, will be presented during the summit. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 16.
The Nonprofit Center is also seeking sponsors for the event. Sponsorship proposals should also be submitted by Sept. 16.
The event’s keynote speaker will be Ruth McCambridge, editor in chief of the Nonprofit Quarterly.
