Robert Meiksins will take over as chief executive officer of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee at the start of September, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The Nonprofit Center works to advance Milwaukee’s nonprofit sector through organizational capacity, volunteerism and cross sector collaboration.
Meiksins succeeds Leigh Kunde, who devoted 22 years to the Nonprofit Center before leaving the organization at the end of July.
“The nonprofit sector is an incredibly important part of the quality of life in Milwaukee, and the Nonprofit Center has helped nonprofits succeed for decades,” Meiksins said in an announcement. “I am very excited for the opportunity to build on the Nonprofit Center’s legacy as it faces new challenges.”
Meiksins also had led a storied career in the nonprofit sector. He will join the Nonprofit Center after spending more than seven years advising area nonprofits as the owner of Forward Steps Consulting, LLC. His company’s services have largely focused on helping nonprofits with organizational development, including governance consulting, fund development and strategic planning.
He also previously served as senior consultant at the McDonald Schaefer Group, a resource development consulting firm with expertise in capital campaign design and execution.
Additionally, he worked as a grants coordinator for Forward Community Investments, a board placement coordinator for BoardStar and executive director of Future Milwaukee.
Meiksins’ background in nonprofit leadership and development will be “a boon” to the organizations the Nonprofit Center assists and to the industry as a whole, said Josh Bierbach, president of the Nonprofit Center’s board of directors.
