  • Saturday, Oct. 2 Milwaukee will host the 2010 Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s at Mount Mary College, 2900 N. Menomonee River Parkway beginning at 9:30 a.m. To pre-register call or email Pat Miller at 414.479.8800 or patricia.miller@alz.org
  • Sunday, Oct. 3 The Bryon Riesch Paralysis Foundation of Waukesha and Carroll University will host the first annual 5K Bryon’s Run/Walk for Paralysis on the Carroll University Campus. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Carroll University Physical Therapy Building on Barstow Street. Pre-walk/run stretching begins at 8:30 a.m. with the walk/run starting at 9 a.m. Fees for the race are $20 for an individual and $50 for families.   • Saturday, Oct. 9 BoardStar will celebrate its statewide expansion with Evening Under the Stars: a Unique Celebration of Nonprofit Boards at the Daniel M. Soref Planetarium, 800 W. Wells St. on Saturday, Oct. 9. The event will begin at 6 p.m.  Guests at the event will get to experience a dinner buffet, followed by an exclusive planetarium show. The Madison-based Cycropia Aerial Dance Troupe will perform on trapeze and hand loops and a silent and live auction will also be featured. Cost to attend is $75 or $150 per couple, reservations are required. For more information visit www.boardstar.org
  • Friday, Oct. 15 March of Dimes Drive for Babies will be held at Road America- Elkhart Lake. The all day driving experience will allow participants to take their own vehicle out on the track to raise needed funds for the March of Dimes organization. March of Dimes Drive for Babies. Registration is now open and can be done by visiting the March of Dimes website.
  • Saturday, Oct. 16 The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha will host its Big Red Tailgate party at the UAW Local 72 headquarters, 3615 Washington Road, from 2 to 5 p.m. More than 40 Wisconsin Craft beers will be available for sampling, live music from the Jimmy LeRose band and raffles for two large screen tvs as well as a silent auction. Tickets are $20 in advance and lunch is included in the price. To purchase tickets visit: www.bgckenosha.org
  • Thursday, Oct. 21, The Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management at UW-Milwaukee, in partnership with the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee, will host a forum at the center from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The Forum is designed to challenge participants to learn and discuss common practices in volunteer management and recruitment, the advantages of adopting more strategic approaches during challenging times. Jeffrey Brudney, volunteer management scholar and the Albert A. Levin chair of Urban Studies and Public Service at the Maxine Goodman School of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University will keynote the event and highlight three steps an organization can take in involving volunteers. There is no cost to attend but space is limited and reservations are required by October 15.
