Newaukee to present summit for leaders of YP groups

After organizing the first-ever statewide YP Week this past April, Newaukee has announced another first-of-its-kind conference – one targeting leaders of young professional organizations.

The inaugural YPSummit & Retreat, to be held Nov. 5-6 in Milwaukee, will offer professional development training for leaders of young professional organizations and events.

Newaukee, which describes itself as a Milwaukee-based social architecture firm, realized the need for an event that would educate organizers of young professional initiatives after expanding its YPWeek from Milwaukee to eight cities across Wisconsin.

The firm discovered that most young professional-oriented events focus only on the audience and that no summit really takes into consideration the development of individuals coordinating the events, according to Jeremy Fojut, chief idea officer of Newaukee.

Its YPSummit will highlight learning lessons for cities, companies, nonprofits and people wanting to start their own young professionals programming or present existing programming more effectively.

The entire summit will function as a workshop aimed at content creators, according to Fojut. The summit will hit on a range of professional development training issues, including ways to increase program membership, diversify program design, enhance member engagement, better fundraise and start a new young professionals organization.

The two-day event will also feature networking and peer mentorship opportunities among young professionals leaders as well as program planning for next year’s YPWeek in Wisconsin.

The event is open to anyone in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and beyond. Newaukee has sent out 500 summit invitations to cities around the Midwest after receiving inquiries from other cities about its programming and operations, Fojut said.

While open to anyone, the summit will primarily cater to chamber of commerce staff members, economic development organizations, presidents of corporate young professional employee resource groups, leaders of young professionals organizations and presidents of nonprofit young professional branches.

The summit will unfold at the Hilton City Center Hotel, located at 509 W. Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee.
