New web tool streamlines business startup process

The website, a project of the State of Wisconsin, is going live with its first phase today, opening entrepreneurs up to a central hub that can walk them through steps necessary to bringing their ideas to market.

“We are making it easier for businesses to start and operate in Wisconsin,” Gov. Scott Walker said in a press release. “The One Stop Business Portal allows job creators access to the resources they need in one convenient location, making government more effective, more efficient, and more accountable.  By eliminating the need for people to visit three agencies, we have streamlined the process for job creators in Wisconsin.”

The web portal guides small business owners through three steps to opening their business. The portal houses multiple forms from the Department of Financial Institutions, the Department of Revenue and the Department of Workforce Development, streamlining requirements for business leaders. The site saves users’ information so that they can complete each form at their leisure and offers step-by-step navigation as it charts their progress, sends out email notifications and tracks their account history.

Future phases of the new site may feature permits, licenses and registrations from other state departments in addition to services businesses already up and running use.

The state developed the new online tool in a public/private partnership with Wisconsin Interactive Network.
