New Water Center tenant to provide water cycle training

A new tenant has created a system for training water managers at Milwaukee’s Global Water Center.

NEW Works, an entity of Milwaukee business growth consulting firm Mahattil International, will provide hands-on experience to water management professionals using equipment that recreates the complete water cycle.

The company will offer six training courses: water purification, water supply, wastewater transport, wastewater treatment, monitoring and controlling operations and energy optimization in water treatment plants.

“For all of the aspirations of incorporating the latest development of water technology, it is still essential to have superbly trained talent operating the systems,” said Dean Amhaus, president and chief executive officer of The Milwaukee Water Council, which established the Water Center in September. “This is where NEW Works comes in as it will be a tremendous resource and asset in meeting this training demand.”

NEW Works is part of the Flow Lab on the Water Center’s first floor. The water cycle set-up can also be used for research, including modeling and simulations. The lab will be used to train professionals in process control and automation field expertise for water management.

“NEW Works’ curriculum was designed to quickly equip water management professionals with the skills to function at an advanced level in the water industry,” said Shajan John, president of Mahattil. “Our courses address the global shortage of water industry technicians and engineers.”

NEW Works will host an open house on Feb. 10 to showcase its space.
