New Penn Financial to hire up to 100 in Brown Deer

New Penn Financial LLC plans to add up to 100 employees in Brown Deer, and is hosting a job fair on Monday to fill the positions.

The Plymouth Meeting, Penn.-based lender, which was founded in 2008 and acquired Milwaukee-based mortgage lender Shelter Mortgage Co. in September 2014, currently has about 60 employees in Wisconsin, at its locations in Madison and in Brown Deer. The company has about 40 branches nationwide staffed by a total of 1,715 employees.

After the acquisition of Shelter Mortgage, which now operates as a subsidiary of New Penn, the company laid off 63 employees in Brown Deer.

The job fair will be held on Monday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board. New Penn representatives will meet potential candidates and accept their resumes at the event.

Among the available positions are underwriters, processors and originators. The employees would work out of the company’s existing 20,000-square-foot space at 4000 W. Brown Deer Road.

“We have significant space in the Brown Deer location and could accommodate hiring up to 100 people,” a spokesperson said. “It will depend on the skillset we find as we go through the job fair.”
New Penn has also indicated it is evaluating the possibility of opening a call center or creating an inside sales team in the Milwaukee market.

“We have made a strategic decision to expand our footprint in the Midwest and grow our presence in Milwaukee,” said Corey Caster, senior vice president of Shelter Mortgage. “Milwaukee has been a very strong market for us and we are excited to build upon our success here.”

“When Shelter Mortgage Company became part of New Penn Financial, we significantly expanded our share of the mortgage market and doubled the size of our retail channel,” said Randy Vanden Houten, chief financial officer, Shelter Mortgage. “Now is the time to take the next step and further our growth plans here.”
