Milwaukee developer David Winograd has purchased 29.3 acres of vacant land in southwestern Waukesha for a future retail development.
Winograd and his partners purchased the property for $1.1 million from Itasca, Ill.-based Jewel Food Stores Inc. last week, according to state records.
The site, at Highway 59 and Saylesville Road, will have a mixture of retail and commercial, Winograd said.
“We’ve had various (potential tenants) interested, but nothing has been finalized,” Winograd said. “This is a growing area, and we saw a good opportunity.”
The development will likely take place over the next two years, once roads and utilities are put in, he said.
Winograd, who owns D & K Management Services LLC., has worked on several residential projects in recent years in Milwaukee’s Third Ward neighborhood, including developing the former Prime Leather Furnishes Co. building into market-rate apartments at 188 S. 2nd St.
He said the Waukesha property will likely remain commercial, since that is what it is zoned for.
