MYSO names new executive director

The Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra has appointed Linda Edelstein as executive director.
Edelstein will take over most likely this fall, succeeding director Fran Richman, who is retiring after 24 years with MYSO. Edelstein, who was selected for the leadership position after a national search, has an extensive background in executive roles within the performing arts industry. She currently serves as the chief operating officer for the United Performing Arts Fund where she has managed an annual budget of $10 million and has been a vital part of developing UPAF’s annual campaigns to support the arts. Before her work with UPAF, Edelstein served as executive director of the Waukesha Symphony Orchestra (now known as the Wisconsin Philharmonic). During her seven years of guidance in Waukesha, she established a “Success Through Music” program to expose students of all backgrounds to music education. Edelstein also has extensive experience as a musician. In addition to earning an Executive MBA from Marquette University, she holds a Master of Music degree from Yale University and a bachelor’s degree in music performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has taught music at UW-Whitewater, UW-Oshkosh, Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Hartland Music Center, and Yale University. Edelstein also plays the oboe and English horn for Milwaukee’s Present Music among other musical accomplishments. “I am delighted to join the MYSO team to lead the organization as we continue to be instrumental in changing lives,” Edelstein said in a statement. “I can think of no greater honor than to advance the impact MYSO has on our future generations through high quality music education.”
